Melissa Soccer Tournament Champions!

E-mail Print PDF

Melissa and her soccer team, the Cheetahs, had a great season this year. They played very well together for a team together for the first year and they really improved their skills across the board.

We played in several tournaments this year and in a few of them, we ended up playing a particular team, the Speed team, in the finals. In pretty much all the tournaments we played in, we came in second place.

The team had their last tournament this weekend. And again, we ended up in the finals playing the Speed team in the finals. The game started REALLY strong, probably stronger than I've ever seen the girls play. I think they were really pumped to beat Speed finally. We were playing hard. We scored about half way through the first half and went into half time with a score of 1-0.

The second half was a little rough. Speed tied it and then not long after, scored another to take the lead 2-1. But the Cheetahs were not done. We came back and scored a goal pretty quickly to make it 2-2.

With only about 2 minutes left in the game, we scored again to take the lead back at 3-2 and WIN!!! The girls were ecstatic. It was quite emotional not only because of the drama and the context of the team having always come in second but also because for each game of the tourney, I was on the phone giving Marcia the play-by-play. She of course, was very sad that she couldn't be there and missed the games.

What made it even better is the girls had special visitors. The Manchester United English women's soccer team was in the area and had held a clinic for the girls on Friday night. They came to the game and watched and then autographed the girls shirts for them.
